Karl-Anthony Towns to Build State-of-the-Art Sports Facility in the Dominican Republic
In a ground-breaking initiative poised to make a significant impact on youth development in the Dominican Republic, Karl-Anthony Towns, star of the NBA’s New York Knicks and World Youth Clubs Global Ambassador, has announced he will honor the memory of his late mother, Jacqueline Cruz-Towns, by providing major funding for a state-of-the-art youth sports training facility in the Dominican Republic. The complex will provide unparalleled access to coaching, physical therapy, recreational opportunities and educational resources, reflecting the values of faith and family, sacrifice and hard work that Karl-Anthony’s mother instilled in him.
This initiative, in partnership with WYC and our affiliate GO Ministries/GO Sports, will empower young people, offering a safe haven for growth and opportunity. The complex, located near Santiago, will include football (soccer) and baseball fields, covered courts for basketball and volleyball, and a weight/training room. Towns emphasized that this project will enable children to dream big and develop essential life skills, regardless of whether they decide to pursue professional athletics.
“We are so excited to partner with WYC and Karl-Anthony on this groundbreaking project,” said Will Partin, President of GO Ministries.“Karl’s involvement will open doors for youth who might otherwise miss such opportunities, fostering a new generation of leaders and champions in theDominican Republic.”
Scheduled for completion in 2026, the project embodies Towns’ commitment to giving back to his mother’s homeland. “I wanted to bring the type of resources that we have in the U.S. to kids in the Dominican Republic and provide them the opportunity to have the best equipment and the best chances possible to not only make money for their family but also pursue their dreams,” he stated, ensuring his mother’s legacy continues to inspire future generations.
