STEM Clubs Albania: Building Young Innovators

Albania

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) education is increasingly recognized as essential in preparing students for the future. In Albania, EDU ACT Albania is playing a pivotal role in bridging the gap between education and innovation through its STEM clubs. These clubs offer students hands-on experience in coding, robotics, and scientific exploration, while fostering creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving. Students have the opportunity to collaborate on projects, compete in national and international competitions, and showcase their talents globally. Many have earned recognition at national levels and represented Albania at the European Science on Stage Festivals.

A key objective of EDU ACT Albania’s STEM clubs is to increase the participation of girls in science and technology fields. As Arlind, a 15-year-old STEM club member, shares: “Joining the STEM club completely changed my perspective on learning. Before, I thought science and technology were just difficult subjects in school, but now I see them as tools to solve real-world problems. Through hands-on projects in robotics and coding, I’ve developed critical thinking skills and a passion for engineering.” In addition to empowering students like Arlind, the club also works to inspire more girls to pursue STEM careers, like Sara, a 16-year-old member, who says: “As a girl interested in science, I often felt that STEM was not for me. But being part of this club has completely changed that. The support and encouragement I received helped me gain confidence in coding and problem-solving. Now, I dream of becoming a software engineer and inspiring other girls to pursue their passions in STEM.” With declining enrollment in science-related disciplines, integrating technology into education has proven effective in sparking interest and encouraging more students, especially girls, to pursue STEM careers. By providing engaging and practical learning experiences, the clubs are opening doors for the next generation of female scientists, engineers, and innovators.

Looking ahead, EDU ACT Albania is launching an innovative STEM magazine aimed at highlighting student achievements, sharing knowledge, and inspiring future scientists and engineers. The publication is part of the organization’s ongoing efforts to expand STEM education in Albania, with plans underway to secure funding for its production. This initiative, along with the ongoing support of World Youth Clubs, is enabling EDU ACT Albania to continue empowering young minds, bridging the gender gap in STEM, and positioning Albania as a growing hub for scientific talent.
